Wiegers was a member of De Ploeg, a group of artists in Groningen in the Netherlands.
Other members were Johan Dijkstra, Jan Altink and Hendrik Werkman.
Jan Wiegers went also to Davos where he met Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. Kirchner was a member of Die Brücke. |
| |
The German expressionism with the strong contrasts in colour and the impulsive way of drawing and painting made a lasting influence
on Wiegers. From 1921 when he returned to Groningen other members as Dijkstra and Werkman also began to experiment in this style. |
